The German town of Ludwigfelde on February 20 hosted an emotional meeting for Vietnamese workers who formerly worked at the well-known IFA automobile manufacturing plant in East Germany 20 years ago.
Participants in the meeting included the Mayor of Ludwigfelde, Frank Gerhard, the President of the Council of Teltow-Flaeming district, Peer Giesecke, and the Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany, Do Hoa Binh.
At the event, more than 300 Vietnamese workers and their German colleagues recalled their memories from two decades ago. At that time, 450 young Vietnamese received zealous assistance from local authorities to work for the largest lorry manufacturer in the German Democratic Republic, which churned out tens of thousands of IFA lorries which have been used in many countries.
The town’s officials praised more than 100 Vietnamese families for their business activities, which have made practical contributions to the town’s socio-economic development.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Hoa Binh expressed his wish that the local authorities would assist the Vietnamese community to hold a wide range of activities within the framework of the Vietnam Year in Germany to celebrate the 35th anniversary of German-Vietnamese diplomatic ties.
