Fuel prices lowered in latest review

Retail fuel prices in Vietnam fell on Thursday afternoon after the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued their latest adjustment.

Prices of E5 RON 92 petrol dropped by VND 170 per litre and RON 95 by VND 180, bringing retail prices to VND 19,050 and VND 19,720 per litre, respectively. Diesel fell by VND 540 to VND 17,880 per litre, kerosene decreased by VND 290 to VND 18,110 per litre, and mazut declined by VND 280 per kilogram to VND 14,090.

Authorities did not use or allocate funds from the fuel price stabilisation fund during this review.

The cut followed a single round of increases in the previous session. Since the beginning of the year, RON 95 prices have risen 24 times and fallen 20 times, while diesel has seen 21 increases and 21 reductions.

As of the end of the second quarter, the fuel price stabilisation fund held more than VND 5.6 trillion (USD 213 million). The Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) accounted for about half, or VND 3.08 trillion, as recent adjustments have not drawn on the fund.
