Four family members in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang have died after eating poisonous mushrooms.

On the evening of April 6, the couple Sung Seo Hoa and Ma Thi Gong and their two children were given some mushrooms by Hoa’s father who picked them in a local forest.

The next morning, all of the four had a bellyache and nausea and were sent to the district hospital. Two days later, they were moved to Ha Giang General Hospital because of their serious condition.

After that, the two children were brought to the National Children's Hospital in Hanoi, while their patients were taken to Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital.

However, the children who suffered from severe liver problems, died on April 15.

After an article about the family’s condition published on Dantri/DTiNews Online Newspaper, readers jointly donated a total of VND700 million (USD30,434) which was then transferred to Bach Mai Hospital to treat the children’s parents.

However, the couple died on Monday due to serious liver damage.

According to Vu Manh Ha, party secretary of Hoang Su Phi District, despite local authorities’ warning about poisonous mushrooms, some incidents still happened.

Regarding the donation contributed by Dantri/DTiNews readers, the victims’ family had received part of the funds to hold their funerals; meanwhile, the remainder would be used to support other disadvantaged patients who are also staying at Bach Mai Hospital.

Earlier in April, three family members from Ha Giang Province’s Vi Xuyen District also died of mushroom poisoning, while another remains in critical condition.
