
Five workers have died from pneumoconiosis at Chau Tien Company in Nghe An Province.
Nghi Loc District People's Committee announced on Tuesday that another worker of the Chau Tien Limited Company had died from pneumoconiosis.
The 45-year-old male worker is the fifth that has died from the disease which was caused by their work. Meanwhile, three other workers are still being treated at the hospital for the same disease, with their symptoms being shortness of breath.
According to a report from the Nghi Loc administration, the five deceased all started working at the company in 2017 and were diagnosed with pneumoconiosis in 2021. They had to be hospitalised and underwent lung lavage and oxygen therapy but their conditions kept worsening and they finally died.
Investigations from local authorities have found that the stone powder manufacturer had violated regulations on occupational diseases, working environment, and social insurance and health insurance policies for its employees.
The company carried out no checks on its working environment between 2017 and 2022, the inspection team revealed. They also failed to provide health check-ups for 14 employees who were doing heavy, dangerous and hazardous work.
Nghe An authorities have issued a fine of VND 116 million (USD4,760) to Chau Tien Limited Company for their violations.
Chau Tien Limited Company, located in the Nam Cam Industrial Park in Nghi Loc District, was established in 2005. They employ 34 staff members including 28 workers who are producing 330 tonnes of stone powder a year.
