Consecutive earthquakes have worried local residents
Dr Nguyen Hong Phuong, Deputy Director of the Global Physics Institute’s Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre, said more earthquakes with stronger intensity may continue to shake the plant in the next few years.

However, the quakes may cause no harm to the plant as it was designed to bear 5.5-Richter earthquake.

He confirmed that the 4.7-Richter earthquake that hit on November 15 had its epicentre located just one kilometre downstream from the plant. It was the strongest quake to hit the area so far.

The institute has assigned four working groups to study the quake effects in Bac Tra My District on the afternoon of November 15.

To date, three out of five earthquake surveillance stations in the district have been operated while the rest are being piloted by Russian experts.
