Four endangered turtles weighing 350 kilos have been released into the sea in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang.

According to the border post of Tho Chau Town, an 80-kilo turtle was recently stranded in the net of local fisherman Nguyen Hai Da in Nam Du Commune.

After being told it was a rare and endangered species, Da voluntarily freed the turtle to the sea on Monday morning.

The turtle with the scientific name Lepidochelys olivacea is listed in the red book of threatened species.

Two days ago, Phu Quoc National Park also released three other turtles which have a total weight of 274 kilos into the sea. The animals were handed over by a household in Kien Luong District. The family bought the turtle from fishing boats earlier.
