Endangered bird found in Da​nang resident’s garden

​The Da​nang Forest Protection Department confirmed ​on Thursday that it had received a white-bellied hornbill, a rare and endangered wildlife species, voluntarily handed over by a local resident.

​The Da​nang Forest Protection Department has received a white-bellied hornbill which is voluntarily handed over by a local resident.

The bird was discovered in the garden of Do Van Thong, a resident of Hai Chau District. After spotting and capturing the bird, Thong proactively contacted forest rangers to turn it in.

The bird, weighing 0.4 kilograms, was reported to be in stable health upon transfer. Authorities immediately brought the animal to the Danang Forest Protection Department to carry out conservation procedures in accordance with current regulations.

The white-bellied hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris) belongs to the Bucerotidae family and is listed as an endangered and protected species under Vietnamese law.
