Eight Vietnamese people infected with Covid-19 after returning from Japan

Eight more Vietnamese people have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 after returning from Japan, raising the total number of infection cases in the country to 2,865, the Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday evening.

According to the ministry's report, the newly-infected patients include five men and three women aged between 24-38 who recently returned to Danang City and Nam Dinh and Khanh Hoa provinces. They were all sent to local quarantine areas upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on April 27.

The eight patients are now being treated at hospitals and healthcare centre in Hanoi, Danang, and Khanh Hoa.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,865, including 1,294 imported patients.

As of 6 pm on April 28, a total of 2,516 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 38,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
