On November 14, Tran Nam Hung, vice chairman of Danang People’s Committee, received a group of Dutch companies who came to survey, study and look for investment prospects at Chu Lai Airport.

The delegation toured the planned development area and the currently operating airport. Both sides discussed development vision, master planning, mechanisms and regulatory procedures to identify potential investment opportunities.

Hung said that under the approved master plan for the airport system for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, Chu Lai airport is being developed into an international airport of category 4F, with a design capacity of up to 10 million passengers per year by 2030. The plan also envisages it as a logistics hub for air transport, a flight training centre, and a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility.

Chu Lai Airport has a design capacity of up to 10 million passengers per year by 2030.

According to the 2021-2030 plan, looking ahead to 2050, the city aims to build a coherent, modern airport-economic ecosystem and airport city, developing along an airport-urban model.

The airport city is set to become a new growth pole by leveraging urban space linked with the airport and aviation services, tightly integrated with the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone and the coastal development corridor between Danang and Quang Ngai.

Danang’s leadership is now promoting investment, calling on investors to develop Chu Lai Airport in line with the planned airport-city economic ecosystem.

Leaders from the Royal Schiphol Group and the Dutch aviation consulting firm NACO praised the development vision, master plan and the strategic location of Chu Lai Airport. The companies also showed interest in connected transport infrastructure such as the North-South high-speed railway and Danang’s urban rail system.

Hung acknowledged the constructive feedback and positive evaluation from the Dutch firms. Danang’s leaders committed to offering maximum support on planning, transport infrastructure and investment procedures, while ensuring full compliance with legal regulations. In the coming period, both sides will enhance discussions before reaching a cooperation agreement.
