The scene of the accident.

Dinh Tien Binh, 36, had earlier been detained for the investigation into the deadly traffic accident which occurred on National Highway 14 in Chu Puh District on August 12.

According to a report from Gia Lai Police, Binh was driving a truck carrying gravel when he tried to pass a car carrying members of the HAGL FC which was running in the same direction.

Security cameras from surrounding houses showed that Binh had tried to pass the car on its left side. Then he apparently noticed a truck coming in the opposite direction and turned to the car's right side to pass it. His truck collided with the car, pushing it towards the other truck from the opposite direction. The car was then stuck between two trucks.

The strong crash left all three people in the car including HAGL FC assistant coach Duong Minh Ninh, 48, Portuguese striker Paollo Oliveira, 27, and doctor Dao Trong Tri, 29, dead.

The drivers of the two trucks and the car were injured and tested negative for alcohol and drugs after the accident.

Police are further investigating the case.
