The incident occurred between 6 am and 7 am near Nghi Huong and Nghi Thu wards, when a large group of tourists was swimming. Unexpectedly strong waves and powerful rip currents dragged many of them far from the shoreline.

Upon receiving an emergency call, the Vinh City Centre for Rescue and Disaster Prevention swiftly deployed rescue teams, life rings, jet skis and rescue boats to the scene.

“We immediately mobilised forces after receiving the alert. Fortunately, there were no casualties and all tourists were brought back to shore safely,” a Nghi Huong ward official said.

The sudden incident caused panic among beachgoers and local residents. Authorities later used loudspeakers to warn people against swimming in areas with strong waves or whirlpools, especially early in the morning or when weather conditions appear unstable.

Rescue teams continue to monitor the beach to ensure the safety of visitors.
