"Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve is now home to 1,327 species of plants and 935 species of animals including many rare and critically endangered animals such as the Java pangolin, white-cheeked gibbon, Hatinh Langur, Red-shanked douc langur, gaur, among others.

"We've taken many measures to protect and nurture the plants and animals in the reserve, including having more patrols and installing camera traps," Hoan said.

Established in 2002 over 75,000 hectares in the three districts of Vu Quang, Huong Khe, and Huong Son, Vu Quang National Park was designated an ASEAN Heritage Park in 2018.

The park is a vital biodiversity hotspot in Vietnam, preserving crucial genetic resources necessary for conservation initiatives. It is home to a wealth of endangered and rare species of plants and animals, documented in the IUCN Red List and the Vietnam Red Data Book, warranting dedicated and stringent conservation and protection measures.

Located to the west of the central province of Quang Tri, Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve covers over 23,400 hectares. This is the highest spot of Quang Tri with the mountain peaks of Sa Mu at 1,570 metres and Voi Mep at 1,775 metres above sea level.
