The Dong Nai People’s Committee has asked the prime minister to include the 63-kilometre extension in the list of projects eligible for special mechanisms under Resolution 188/2025. The route would run from Tan Son Nhat International Airport through Dong Nai’s administrative centre to Long Thanh International Airport.
From Tan Son Nhat’s Terminal T3, passengers would take Metro Line 6 to Thu Duc Station before transferring to the extended Metro Line 1.
Dong Nai said the two sides could operate express services at fixed times, stopping only at Thu Duc and the provincial administrative centre, cutting the Tan Son Nhat-Long Thanh journey to about 38-40 minutes.

Metro Line 1 has been completed, while Metro Line 6 is scheduled for implementation between 2026 and 2035. Dong Nai authorities are working with investors to prepare procedures to launch the Line 1 extension in 2026-2030.
The province said the project faces hurdles because, as a public-private initiative, it is not eligible for special planning or investment incentives, including TOD-related policies. It has asked the government to seek National Assembly approval to add the extension to HCM City’s list of urban rail projects entitled to special mechanisms.
