After a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual festival returned with 16 buffaloes competing in 15 matches this year.

The 20,000-seated stadium was full on the opening day. Several large screens were put up outside to broadcast the clashes live for those who didn't have tickets.

Owners Nguyen Duc Tien from Bang La Ward and Pham Van Hieu from Hop Duc Ward won the first and second prizes, respectively.

Two third prizes were presented to Hoang Van Gia and Nguyen Van Nam from Bang La and Van Huong wards.

The traditional Do Son buffalo fighting festival is an indispensable part of local life. It is associated with Water Goddess worshipping and sacrificing customs.

The festival was recognised as a national cultural intangible heritage in 2012.
