Once expanded, the airport can serve aeroplanes A320 and A321, instead of ATR72s as before. Its terminal’s annual capacity will be raised to 500,000 passengers from 300,000 earlier.

The airport’s runway will be lengthened and widened to 2,400 metres and 45 metres respectively. The project will build more taxiways and install lighting systems.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has asked the Airports Corporation of Vietnam and airlines to build their plan on flights from and to Dien Bien Airport.
