Demand for construction workers rises at year-end.
Since early 2020, Hung has received orders to repair 19 housing constructions and 14 houses are still incomplete. Hung said their works were time-consuming, especially if they work on the house facade. An experienced worker and an assistant can only complete several square metres a day.
Tran Van Thu from Nam Dinh Province is also searching for more workers for 13 constructions in Hanoi. The date for the workers to start digging the foundations or to let the owners move in must follow feng shui so they must complete the works a month before Tet Holiday.
"Many customers want to repair their houses but I don't dare to accept any more requests. I have 25 workers and five assistants and I plan to hire five more workers and two assistants," he said.
He went on to say that it even took quick learners five to 10 years to gain enough experience. He has a very difficult time recruiting new workers even though he is willing to pay VND500,000 (USD21.5) a day for good workers and VND300,000 a day for assistants. Most of the workers don't sign any contracts and they will leave for another job for that pays higher immediately.
Despite the high workload, Hung said they always focused on the work to ensure the construction quality.
"The owners are very detailed and careful with their houses so we have to be careful too. I work directly on the site every day to monitor the work. We want to keep our reputation too," he said.
