Danang beach patrol scans 500 metres to recover buried phone

A beach management team in Danang City used a metal detector to recover a mobile phone buried under sand after the owner spent five days searching unsuccessfully along Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach.

The management board of Son Tra Peninsula and Danang’s tourist beaches said on Friday that two members of its beach order management team were dispatched to assist after receiving a report of the lost phone on May 14.

The owner, a resident of Thanh Khe Ward, had previously used location tracking and searched the area with family members but failed to find the device.

Based on the reported location, the team scanned about 500 metres of shoreline using a metal detector. The search was complicated by the wide area, thick vegetation and hot weather conditions.

After nearly two hours, the phone was found buried beneath the sand and returned to its owner.

Phan Thanh Trinh, a member of the beach order management team who took part in the search, said the woman became emotional upon receiving the phone, having nearly lost hope of finding it after several days.

Danang’s beach management force has recently helped residents and tourists recover several lost valuables, including phones and rings, in efforts local authorities say help reinforce the city’s image as a friendly tourist destination.
