Danang allocates VND 580 billion to support social housing projects

Danang City has approved a VND 580 billion (USD 22.1 million) support package to encourage investment in social housing projects as the city seeks to ease housing shortages.

The city People's Council approved the policy under a resolution introducing support mechanisms for social housing projects through 2030.

The package will be funded by revenue from land earmarked for social housing in commercial housing projects, supplemented by the city budget.

Eligible projects include social housing financed by trade union funds, worker accommodation in industrial parks and housing for the armed forces developed without public investment.

The funding will cover land acquisition and resettlement costs, fees and charges for investment procedures, and the construction of technical infrastructure within project sites.

Authorities said demand for affordable housing remains high among industrial workers, employees and civil servants, particularly following the recent administrative merger, while supply has been constrained by land shortages, lengthy procedures and limited investment incentives.

The resolution aims to accelerate social housing development and support the city's target of completing nearly 29,000 social housing units between 2025 and 2030 under a government plan.

Under the policy, investors will receive full support for compensation, resettlement and administrative fees, while technical infrastructure costs will be subsidised by up to 30 per cent, capped at VND 6 billion (USD 229,000), in central urban wards and Hoi An, and up to 50 per cent, capped at VND 10 billion (USD 382,000), elsewhere.

The subsidies will not be included in the selling, lease-purchase or rental prices of social housing.
