Daklak to build 300 flood-resilient community houses

Daklak authorities plan to spend VND 460 billion (USD 18.4 million) to build 295 flood-resilient community houses to protect residents in disaster-prone areas.

According to the provincial department of construction, three standard design options have been developed to suit different locations. The buildings will be two-storey reinforced concrete structures, serving both as community centres and safe shelters during natural disasters. Each project is estimated to cost between VND 1.56 billion and VND 1.77 billion (about USD 62,000 to USD 70,800).

The department said the project is currently undergoing investment policy approval, while funding allocation is being proposed to the provincial finance department.

During a site inspection, provincial party secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet described the project as an urgent task to safeguard lives and property in areas frequently affected by natural disasters.

He urged local authorities to review and select elevated, safe construction sites, with a target to begin construction before June 30, 2026 and complete the facilities by September 15, 2026.

Statistics show that historic floods in November last year left 113 people dead in the province, damaged hundreds of homes and infrastructure, and caused losses estimated at nearly VND 7 trillion (USD 280 million).
