Dak Lak man detained for growing over 1,000 cannabis plants

Authorities of the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak have arrested a man for growing more than 1,000 cannabis plants at his farm.

Authorities of the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak have arrested a man for growing more than 1,000 cannabis plants at his farm.

On January 4, the police found up to 1,012 cannabis trees at a farm owned by Nguyen Van Bao from Ea Nam Commune, Buon Ma Thuot City. They were grown alternately with pepper trees.

The cannabis plants are between 80 cm and 1.2 metres high with foliage 30-40 cm wide.

At the police station, Bao admitted that a person in Buon Ma Thuot City gave him the plants and then he has developed them into 1,012 trees.

The local police have destroyed the whole plantation.

The police said that cannabis farmers can face a seven-year imprisonment and a fine of up to VND50 million (USD2,173).
