Illegal foreign currency found at Tan Son Nhat Airport |
Customs officers at Tan Son Nhat Airport confiscated illegal foreign currency held by a French woman while she was preparing to fly to Shanghai (China).
Her name is Patel Rita, 31. Her foreign currency was discovered during standard preflight procedures from Ho Chi Minh City to Shanghai. She did not declare the currency to customs officials and was carrying 62,360 Euros which is not allowed under Vietnamese laws.
She violated administrative regulations of customs, thus she is allowed to keep only 5,360 Euros as regulated and was forced to leave behind 57,000 Euros which was confiscated by the Customs Department of Tan Son Nhat Airport.
According to the department, there were 5 cases of undeclared currency within the first 2 months of this year. Confiscated were USD 174,800 and 14,800 Euros.
