According to the Binh Thuan Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue, the boat had an accident some 140 nautical miles northeast of Phu Quy Island at 3 am on November 26. At that time, the weather was unfavourable with strong winds and rough seas.

After receiving the call for help from Captain Vo Van Vuong, the committee called concerned agencies and vessels operating around areas for the rescue.
At 2 pm on Wednesday, a fishing boat from Binh Dinh spotted the broken boat and helped tow it to Cam Ranh Port.
All of the fishermen on the boat are in stable health.
