Deputy chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, Doan Tan Buu, announces the death of the 10-year-old boy who fell into a 35-metre deep concrete pillar at a local construction site.
Deputy chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Doan Tan Buu told local media that the conclusion was made after assessing the time and location of the accident, which likely caused the victim multiple injuries, in addition to the harsh conditions inside the deep pit.
Rescuers at the site have still been trying to raise the pillar from its 35-metre-deep (115-feet) hole to take young Thai Ly Hao Nam out.

According to local authorities, Nam entered the construction site of the Roc Sen Bridge project with three other friends to look for scrap metal on December 31. He then suddenly fell into an hollow concrete pillar which is around 25cm in diameter and 35m deep. His friends called for help and a rescue team were sent to the area soon afterwards.
Continuous efforts were made to deliver oxygen and water to sustain his life, as well as different strategies to bring him out of the pit, to no avail.
