The host leader was convinced that the upcoming talks with his Japanese counterpart Naoto Kan on the sidelines of the 17th ASEAN Summit would lift the bilateral ties to a new height.

The Vietnamese Government chief urged the two sides conduct political, security and strategic consultations at deputy-ministerial level and boost trade and investment ties. On the other hand, Mr. Dung suggested the National Diet of Japan early recognize Vietnam as a market economy and the Government of Japan grant more ODA, scholarships and education assistance for Vietnam.

For his part, former Japanese PM Yukio Hatoyama hoped that Vietnam and Japan can consider the possibility for construction of the second nuclear power station in Vietnam. He said that Japan is ready to hand over technology and train personnel for the project.

Finally, the Japanese guest affirmed that Japan is speeding up all cooperation projects between the two countries in the principle of mutual trust, understanding and long-term efficiency.
