People gather along the banks of the Lam River to wait for the searching of the three victims on October 15.
Rescue teams discovered the bodies of the two girls downstream around 2 pm on October 15, about 18 kilometres from Ben Thuy I Bridge, where initial traces were found. About an hour later, Dung’s body was found further downstream near the Cua Lo Estuary.
The three victims were residents of Kim Lien Commune, Nghe An Province. Local authorities said Dung and his 26-year-old wife met while working abroad, married over five years ago, and had two daughters. They had been living in Dung’s hometown in Nghe An.
More than two months ago, following a marital dispute, Dung’s wife took their daughters to her mother’s home in Hung Yen Province. Dung later brought the children back to Nghe An.
On the evening of October 13, passersby reported seeing Dung and his two daughters jump from Ben Thuy I Bridge into the Lam River. His motorbike and the children’s school bags were found near the bridge railing.
Hundreds of rescue officers, local authorities, and residents joined the search effort along the Lam River, eventually recovering the bodies downstream.
