Many flights to the central region have been unable to land due to thick fog which has affected visibility in recent days.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), thick fog and drizzle over the past few days have made it impossible for some flights to land at Vinh Airport in Nghe An Province and Tho Xuan Airport in Thanh Hoa Province.
"Five flights on the Ho Chi Minh City- Vinh route had to switch to land at Hanoi's Noi Bai Airport at 7 pm on January 25," CAAV said. "Some airlines including Bamboo Airways, Vietjet, Pacific Airlines arranged buses to transport passengers to Vinh."
Two flights operated by Vietnam Airlines on the same route also had to switch to Noi Bai for landing due to bad weather in Vinh on January 25. The airline had to conduct another flight to transport passengers from Noi Bai to Vinh on January 26.
A representative from Vietnam Airlines said that it's usually cloudy and foggy in the northern and central regions at this time of the year so passengers should closely watch the weather forecast around their travelling time.
"We’ll offer food and drinks at the airports for passengers whose flights are delayed from two hours," Vietnam Airlines said. "Those whose flights are cancelled due to bad weather will be supported with road transportation fees."
