The announcement was made by Pham Van Thieu, Chairman of the provincial people’s committee. The dyke section running along the East Sea is located in Bac Lieu City’s Vinh Trach Dong Commune.

The dyke section has been seriously damaged
Erosion has been caused by high tides with strong wind over the recent days, affecting around 46 metres of dyke. It is up to 1.5 metres deep.
The protective forest of the dyke section has been damaged, which has worsened the erosion.
The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been asked to zone the section and place warning signs to ban people and vehicles from going there.
Bac Lieu had to declare an emergency previously at two sea embankment systems in Dong Hai District.
By 2030, Bac Lieu will need around VND19.2 trillion (USD808.6 million) for a project to deal with landslides and erosion along rivers and coasts.
