ASEAN+3 foreign ministers discuss important regional issues

Foreign ministers from ten ASEAN countries and three partners gathered in Bali, Indonesia on July 21 to discuss the region’s important issues.

Foreign ministers from ten ASEAN countries and three partners, including China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan gathered in Bali, Indonesia on July 21 to discuss the region’s important issues.

The ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, chaired by Foreign Minister of host Indonesia Marty Natalegawa, discussed measures to strengthen ASEAN+3 cooperation in the coming time, thus boosting ASEAN cooperation and connectivity towards the building of the ASEAN Community and consolidating the evolving regional architecture for peace, cooperation, security and stability in the region.

The ministers exchanged ways to take advantage of development opportunities as well as timely and effectively cope with traditional and non-traditional security challenges such as climate change, natural disasters, epidemics, transnational crimes, maritime security, aviation, energy, food and water.

They also discussed many international and regional issues of common concern, including the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and the strengthening of civil nuclear security.

The meeting will issue a joint statement in the evening of July 21.
