A new tropical low-pressure system has appeared in the East Sea, only half a day after the last Conson storm. It is rapidly gaining momentum and is predicted to be as powerful as the Conson typhoon that wreaked havoc recently upon parts of Asia.

According to the latest reports from the National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Centre, as of 7 am this morning, the tropical depression laid centered at 16 degrees north latitude and 122 degrees east longitudes, east of Luzon Island, Phillippines. The strongest winds near the storm’s centre were 39 to 49 kilometres per hour.
In the next 24 hours, the system will move northwest at a speed of 15 kilometres per hour and will likely intensify. The storm will make the eastern East Sea rough with winds up to 61 kilometres per hour. Currently, weather forecasters are trying to follow the movement of the storm and determine its landfall locations.
Before the new storm threat, the Standing Office of the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control (CCFSC), ordered the Flood and Storm Control Committee of all cities and provinces, and ministries to promptly inform all boat owners that are at sea about the storm movements, so that proper preparation for the storm could be put in place.
In a meeting that addresses the recent Conson storm, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat, head of the CCFSC, said that Conson is a strong storm with complicated movements. According to Phat, every year, the first storm of the East Sea normally would hit near on the border between China and Vietnam, but this year, it had gone straight to and directly hit the North Delta of Vietnam. Phat added that this year’s monsoon season is going to be very irregular compared to previous years.
According to the meteorological centre, the monsoon season this year comes later than usual, but Vietnam will likely to be hit with more storms and more overwhelming ones than in the past.
