An additional 15,727 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Vietnam on Thursday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number of patients with over 2,900 cases, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report, 15,672 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,907), Danang (873), Bac Ninh (794), Thanh Hoa (727), and Hai Phong (719). There were 55 imported cases confirmed the same day.
The new infections showed a decrease of 213 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,627 infections found in the community.
As of Thursday evening, 2,196,351 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (513,259), Binh Duong (292,752), Hanoi (120,175), Dong Nai (99,811), and Tay Ninh (87,706). Vietnam has so far confirmed 166 Omicron-infected cases.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,203,208. The country now stands 28th among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On January 27, an additional 21,000 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,945,611.
On Thursday evening, a further 126 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 37,291. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including HCM City (11), Hanoi (31), and Vinh Long (11).
Vietnam on January 26 administered 930,725 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 175.59 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 73.90 million people having received two doses.
