The bomb was found about 1.5 metres underground by a resident digging foundations for a house in Noong De Village, Nam Can Commune.

Military personnel secured the site and established a safety perimeter after receiving the report. Explosive ordnance disposal specialists later identified the device as an intact US-made M117 bomb, measuring about 1.2 metres long, 42 centimetres in diameter and still fitted with its fuse.
Nearby residents were temporarily evacuated while engineers disabled the fuse. More than 10 local militia members then helped transport the bomb out of the residential area.
The bomb was taken to a remote mountainous site in Truong Son Village, Nam Can Commune, where it was safely destroyed without causing injuries or damage.
