A large bomb has been found beneath the Nam Mo River in Tuong Duong Commune, Nghe An Province, local authorities said.

Nguyen Hong Tai, Chairman of Tuong Duong Commune, said that on November 3 that some residents of Pung Village discovered the device, measuring around 1.4 metres in length and about 30 centimetres in diameter.

The bomb was detected on October 30 after floodwaters receded, lying about 30 metres from the riverbank and roughly 200 metres from Tan Xa Bridge.

Upon receiving the report, the commune authorities deployed militia and security personnel to guard the scene, installed warning signs and banned access to the site. Residents were instructed not to approach, photograph, or fish near the area.

Local authorities and specialist forces are preparing documentation and procedures for safe disposal of the device.
