A rare crocodile, believed to be a Siamese crocodile of the Crocodylus Siamensis species, and the last of its kind in Vietnam, was found dead on September 29 in Ea Lam Commune in the central province of Phu Yen.

The People’s Committee of Ea Lam Commune in Song Hinh District said the local government is planning to preserve the dead crocodile that weighs more than 100 kilograms and is 3.2 meters in length. Authorities are now investigating the cause of death.
Five years ago, Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper had released news that the Institute of Tropical Biology had discovered the Siamese crocodile of Crocodylus Siamensis species that were not as fierce as others of their species.
Crocodiles have a life span of more than 70 years and can give birth when they are 10-years-old. The species is currently at high risk of extinction in the world
