A project to replace pavements around Hoan Kiem Lake with more durable natural stone is expected to be started by the middle of this year.
According to Pham Tuan Long, vice chairman of Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee, many sections of pavements around Hoan Kiem Lake have deteriorated. After being repaired for numerous times, the pavements in the area have used up to 20 different kinds of stones and bricks.

The project will use stone for the pavements around the lake. The stone, which is originated from the central province of Binh Dinh and 10-cm deep, should last decades.
“The city has carefully considered the project and sought opinions from ministries and agencies for it,” Long noted.
The project is slated for completion by late this year.

Earlier, Nguyen Duc Chung, chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, decided to halt a project of paving streets with natural stone following public concern over the quick deterioration of many streets which have had similar treatments.
According to Chung, the natural stone paving will only be prioritised in central areas with historical meaning. Other areas will be considered on a case by case basis.
