Japan welcomed 396,500 Vietnamese visitors in the first six months of the year, up 8.7 per cent from a year earlier. In June alone, arrivals rose 6.7 per cent year on year to 56,500, the highest figure ever recorded for the month.
Overall, Japan received 21.08 million international visitors in the first half, while June arrivals totalled 3.15 million, down 6.8 per cent from a year earlier.
Travel companies attributed the increase in Vietnamese visitors to the summer school holiday, a weaker Japanese yen and improved air connectivity. A direct route linking Hanoi and Shizuoka launched in April has also helped boost travel demand.
Package tours to Japan typically cost VND 30-40 million (about USD 1,140-1,520) per person, with the Tokyo-Mount Fuji-Nagoya-Kyoto-Osaka itinerary remaining the most popular.
