Vietnam prepares to celebrate Hung Kings Festival

Speaking at a press conference in Hanoi on March 30, Phu Tho People’s Committee Deputy Chairman Ha Ke San said that the festival’s main venues would include the Hung Temple site on the Nghia Linh Mountain, Viet Tri City and surrounding areas, and well as other temples.

The highlights of the festival will be tributes to Lac Long Quan and Au Co, Vietnamese people’s legendary parents. The festival will also have other activities such as a contest to make Chung and Day cakes; art performances in Viet Tri’s streets; a hat xoan show (traditional northern music) along with folk games, including swings, wrestling and human chess.

Nearby Ca Mau, Binh Thuan and Hung Yen provinces will also jointly host this year’s festival, San said. He explained that every year, Phu Tho Province invites localities to participate in the organising of the event in recognition of its national significance.

San claimed the festival could see up tp 6-7 million visitors. He also issued a stern warning to businesses that hoped to exploit the event to profiteer.

The organisers have also attempted to curb excess at this year’s event, by banning record-breaking or ostentatious offerings. Two hotlines have been announced to get any complaint about the festival.
