Phu Quoc night market to be dismantled after lease expiry

Authorities in the Phu Quoc Special Zone in An Giang Province are preparing to dismantle the Bach Dang pedestrian street and night market after its lease expired.

The Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Management Division recently met with relevant agencies and the operator, Ngoi Sao Bien Tourism JSC, to discuss plans for handling assets and clearing the site.

Officials said assets had been reviewed and classified by ownership among the state, the company and traders, while relocation and handover plans are being prepared.

The company said it would work directly with vendors to clear the stalls, adding that authorities could intervene in cases of non-compliance.

Fire safety officials have required that electricity supplies be cut before dismantling begins, while the local power utility reported several cases of illegal power connections.

Authorities also called for stronger inspections to address violations related to urban order, electrical safety and fire prevention.

The Bach Dang pedestrian street and night market operated under a 10-year lease signed in 2015, which expired on Dec. 31, 2025. Officials had earlier asked the company to settle outstanding payments and return the leased land once the contract ended.
