Paragliding Festival starts over Yen Bai rice terraces

The fifth Paragliding Festival has opened at Khau Pha Pass in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai.

The fifth Paragliding Festival has opened at Khau Pha Pass in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai on September 18.

The event is part of the Culture-Tourism Week of Mu Cang Chai Terraced Rice Fields which aims to honour the culture of those who built the region’s iconic terraced paddy fields and the natural beauty of the mountainous area.

About 100 people from seven domestic and foreign paragliding clubs participated in the festival and helped visitors in Mu Cang Chai District try out the sport and the chance to witness the beauty of the rice fields from bird view.

Mu Cang Chai authorities have prepared watching spots, gathering places for launch and parking lots for visitors. The organisers also gave prizes to paragliders with most accurate landing and most impressive outfits.

Thousands of people have flocked to the district to enjoy the festival, causing congestion on the pass.

Khau Pha is one of Vietnam's four most greatest mountain passes at about 1,200 metres above sea level. It has become an ideal destination for paragliding. Many paragliders praise the area as one of the world’s most beautiful paragliding locations.
