Demolition of Quy Nhon beachfront hotel postponed

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai Province has proposed allowing the Hai Au Hotel in Quy Nhon’s beachfront to operate until 2052 to avoid waste and ease business difficulties.

The Gia Lai Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment submitted two options to the provincial people’s committee on September 9, regarding the Hai Au Hotel, recommending that it be allowed to operate on its site until 2052, similar to the Hoang Yen Hotel.

Hai Au Hotel 

The Gia Lai People’s Committee decided to reclaim the land of Hai Au Hotel as its lease had expired. Under the regulations, the investor, Construction Joint Stock Company 47, must dismantle and remove all assets, return the site to the state, and will not be compensated. This will also help to create public space for community activities and preserve an unobstructed view along the entire seafront park.

However, according to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, Hai Au Hotel was built in 2005 with a lifespan of 50-100 years. Its facilities remain in good condition, and the hotel is operating stably, helping to meet local tourism infrastructure needs.

Therefore, demolishing Hai Au Hotel now would waste social and corporate resources, weaken the province’s tourism infrastructure, and place added strain on the business. Meanwhile, the adjacent Hoang Yen Hotel retains a land lease valid through 2052.

The department proposed permitting Hai Au Hotel to continue using the land until the end of Hoang Yen Hotel’s lease.

According to Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Gia Lai People’s Committee, the province’s consistent stance is to relocate Hai Au Hotel, but with a clear roadmap in place. He noted Hai Au Hotel has been in service for just 15 years, so immediate demolition would be wasteful, primarily since it and Hoang Yen are operating effectively and have become Quy Nhon landmarks.
