Thousands of people in Hanoi and HCM City flocked to the streets on December 24 to celebrate Christmas Eve.

At 6pm, areas surrounding Hanoi’s St. Joseph’s Cathedral were already packed with people. At 7pm, routes to the city's centre were jammed and cars struggled to move.

Traffic police in HCM City said they had mobilised all personnel to key locations to regulate traffic and deal with possible complications.

Many drivers were stuck for hours while other people had to find a nearby parking lot for their vehicles.
