Huynh Thanh Phuong, chairman of the Thoi Lai Commune People's Committee, said that local authorities had summoned the two businesses operating the attraction and ordered them to suspend the rides pending a review. He added the commune would issue an official statement later in the day.
Videos of the attraction have recently gone viral on social media, showing tourists riding a vo lai, a traditional motorboat widely used in Vietnam's Mekong Delta, at high speed through narrow canals.
Powered by a high-performance engine, the boat's bow lifts clear of the water, creating the sensation of "flying" as it skims across the surface. The ride has quickly become a popular attraction, drawing visitors eager to experience the thrill.
The attraction costs VND 250,000 (USD 9.50) for a 15- to 20-minute ride, while visitors can pay an additional VND 100,000 for a souvenir video.
Despite its popularity, the attraction has sparked safety concerns, with many questioning whether operators are properly trained to navigate the Mekong Delta's narrow waterways.
