The Ministry of Education has issued a regulation which bans smoking in all classes, working places, and educational agencies nationwide. The new rules are in effect as of January 1, 2010.
The Ministry requested schools to display “No smoking” signs at corridors, in classes, meeting halls and other working places of all educational agencies.
Schools also have to carry out propaganda and educate pupils and teaching staff on the Government’s plan of Framework convention on tobacco control in order to raise awareness, as well as change behaviours of pupils and teaching staff in terms of the harmful effects of tobacco.
Schools are now not allowed to receive any sponsorship directly or indirectly from tobacco manufacturers or trading enterprises with an aim of advertising their products.
Selling tobacco in educational agencies is also now strictly prohibited.
