Tran Huu Lam and other staff members from the Dormitory Management Board of the Vietnam National University-HCM City are preparing bikes for disadvantaged students in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum.
"I spent 30 minutes repairing that brake," he said, wiping sweat from his face. "It's very important for safety, especially on mountainous roads."
Lam and nearly 10 other staff members from the Dormitory Management Board of the Vietnam National University-HCM City are preparing bikes for disadvantaged students in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, with the delivery scheduled for March 8.
"We launched a project calling for people to donate their unused bikes to disadvantaged children in Kon Tum and have received hundreds over the past 10 days," he stated. "Now, we're ready to take them to the children."
Nguyen Thi Trong, another team member, mentioned that the university students, local people, and some organisations have mostly donated the bikes. The team has also invested time and money in the repairs.
"We're joined by students and workers from bike repair shops," Trong added. "Bike mechanics handle the difficult repairs while others assist with cleaning or arranging the bikes. Despite the hard work, supporting children from challenging areas brings us joy."
