Free surgery for children with cleft palate held in Phu Yen
More than 200 children with cleft lips and palates in Phu Yen Province have been given free check-ups at Phu Yen General Hospital on September 8.
Children with cleft lips that will be given free surgery must be at least six months old and weigh over 8kg. Children with cleft palate must be at least 18 months old and weigh over 10kg.
Dr Le Trung Nghia, head of the team, said, "In order to prevent cleft lip and cleft palates, pregnant women should take care of themselves, avoid stress and hard labour. Parents should take their children to doctors as soon as possible for advice and to prevent complications."

It is part of the Smile Surgery Programme that aims to provide free check-ups and surgery to children in the Central Highlands and South Central Coast. The programme in Phu Yen will be held from September 8 to 11 with the participation of 40 doctors from National Odonto-Stomatology Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, National Odonto-Stomatology Hospital in Hanoi, and Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Hospital.
