The department earlier asked the provincial people’s committee to propose to the prime minister an extension of the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line in HCM City all the way to Dong Nai's Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park in Bien Hoa City.
The line will run 18.30 km in Dong Nai Province.
Department officials said that if the metro line is extended to Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park, it would mean that the line would connect to Bien Hoa city centre, helping improve the province's links with HCM City. The change also fits the province’s land development plan.
"From Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park, we'll build another metro line linking to Long Thanh Airport," the department said. "This metro line will be connected to the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh Airport route, improving Dong Nai’s links to HCM City."
Another metro project linking Bien Hoa 1 Industrial Park and Bien Hoa Airport would also be studied for construction, the department added.
The two metro routes would connect urban areas in Nhon Trach, Long Thanh, Thong Nhat, and Trang Bom districts.
