According to a police report, the fire broke out following a loud explosion at 8.40 pm on December 5 at a house in a small lane on Le Van Sy Street.
Seeing the fire, some neighbours managed to help four people who were choking on smoke and got them to hospital.
Firefighters arrived later and managed to control the fire after 30 minutes.
However, firefighters found two bodies, one on the ground floor and the other on the staircase when they checked the burnt-down house later.
Earlier the same day, an eight-year-old girl was also killed in another house fire in District 4.
The fire occurred at 3.35 am at a house in a small lane on Ton That Thuyet Street. Ten people managed to escape while an eight-year-old girl died from suffocation caused by the fire.
