On September 11-12, Madam Phuong shop sold 3,620 sandwiches to customers, including 103 foreigners. 273 of them were hospitalised due to food poisoning.
Most of the victims struggled with stomachache, nausea and digestive problems.

According to the conclusion from the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang, seven out of 12 food samples from the shop tested positive for the leading foodborne bacteria, Bacillus cereus and Salmonella spp.
Quang Nam Province’s Department of Health has recommended a fine of VND110.5 million and the suspension of 3-5 months for the shop’s violations. The proposal has been sent to provincial authorities for consideration.
Madam Phuong shop had to cover all expenses related to food poisoning treatment, examination, and treatment for all affected individuals.
Truong Thi Phuong, the owner of Madam Phuong shop, has sent a heartfelt letter to clients who suffered from food poisoning after eating her sandwiches.
Phuong also promised to ensure the highest food safety standards if the shop is allowed to re-open.
