Hanoi’s pavement crack down proves to be failure

More pavements in Hanoi are returning to their previous state in the more than two months since municipal authorities vowed to crack down on violators blocking streets.

More pavements in Hanoi are returning to their previous state in the more than two months since municipal authorities vowed to crack down on violators blocking streets.

The violations have been so common that it’s as if the campaign never happened.

The Hanoi Department of Transport said that they would give permits to open 300 parking lots on the streets as the current parking facilities only meet up to 10% of the demand.

Since May 1, Hanoi has piloted smart parking service at parking lots along Tran Hung Dao and Ly Thuong Kiet streets in Hoan Kiem District.

The service lasts until August 1 allows users to search and pay for car parking via mobile phones.
