The Ministry of Construction has approved the 1:2000 scale construction plan for Vietnam National University in Hoa Lac area, Hanoi.

The project, to be the largest university in northern Vietnam, will have training capacity of 60,000 students a year by 2020. The 1,000ha project includes several areas, in which the central area on a 62.8ha plot will feature a 20-floor building, including management offices, library and cultural houses.
The faculty and member university area will be 345.5ha, and the university will also include a 101.32ha dormitory to accommodate around 60,000 students.
A 26.7ha space will be for mission houses, playgrounds and hotels. The research area will be built on 147.3ha and 140.6ha will be dedicated to green space.
The university is located near many key infrastructure projects like Thang Long Highway, National Highway 21 and Hoa Lac Airport.
The construction of the university is part of the country’s plan to relocate 19 colleges and universities in Hanoi and 17 in Ho Chi Minh City to the outskirts to better serve increasing numbers of students.
Hanoi is home to 96 universities and colleges. The city accounts for one third of the total number of institutions of higher learning, serving 40% of all students nationwide.
