Karate athletes head to China for 23rd Asian Cadet

A team of 11 Vietnamese karate athletes departed for Guangdong, China to compete in the 23rd Asian Cadet, Junior & U21 Karate Championships, scheduled from September 5 to 7.

The athletes will vie in both kata (performance) and kumite (combat) divisions across youth, junior, and U21 categories. Among the squad is standout martial artist Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly, who previously clinched gold medals at the 2022 World Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships and the 2025 Southeast Asian Karate Championship.

The tournament brings together 516 competitors from 30 countries and territories across Asia. Vietnam aims to secure medals at this edition.

Earlier, Huynh Kim Tien, Tran Thi Cam Tu, and Nguyen Thuy Linh competed in the 2025 Asian Karate Youth Championship in China from August 11 to 17.

At the tournament organized by the Asian Karate Federation, Cam Tu earned a gold medal, while Kim Tien and Thuy Linh captured two silver medals. Cam Tu and Kim Tien will continue to represent Vietnam in the upcoming Asian Karate Championships starting September 5 in China.
